Residents of Cumbernauld are particularly fortunate in living in such a rich and varied environment. Within Cumbernauld itself, there's a mixture of urban, farm and lowland moor environments, and there are several large bodies of water. All of which gives rise to a diverse population of resident and visiting birds. Species of particular interest include Scottish Crossbill, Great Grey Shrike, Bean Geese and Pink Footed Geese. And for those venturing beyond Cumbernauld, there are several other large nature reserve type environments within 25 minutes car journey.
