Things are always changing, and the Scouts have had their fair share over the past few year (and there is more to come). We'll try to keep you up to date with what is happening Scoutingwise in Cambusglen and Greater Glasgow, as well as at Scottish and National level. Some of the major changes that have happened or are about to happen are: 1. Scout Association Numbers 2. National Campsite Review 3. Explorers 4. Friends Re-united / Scouts Re-united Scout Association Numbers The latest statistics from the census shows that numbers across the UK have continued to decline. Youth numbers are down another 3% whilst Leader numbers are down 4%. This is not a trend that's occurring everywhere though. Numbers in Cambusglen District have held up well, whilst 48th numbers continue to show a healthy growth over the past 10 years. National Campsite Review National HQ have just announced that they have reviewed the status of the sites they own in England, and come up with Camping Centres of Excellence as a result. There will be four Centre of Excellence in England (Great Tower, Youlbury, Down and Gilwell), with fundign being provided by potentially selling some of the other 11 sites that are own by the Association. You can read the checklist of what will be included within each of the Centres here. Explorers The new age range introduced within Scouting is for 14 - 18 year olds, and is known as Explorers. The Explorers are "owned" by District though may be linked to Groups. Within Cambusglen, work has begun on setting up an Explorer Unit, with the official launch planned for August. You can further details about the progress of the Explorer Unit in Cambusglen at Cambusglen Explorers. Friends Re-united / Scouts Re-united Were you previously a member of our Scout Group (or any other for that matter), well visit Friends Re-united and / or Scouts Re-united and include your details within the Group. 48th Glasgow Scout Group
